Hard water requires to be softened in order to make it suitable for drinking, cooking washing and all other purposes. The best way to go about this is to get hard water treated by using a water softener. With the vast strides in science and technology there are different kinds of water softeners manufactured by various brands available in the market today.

To find out what is the best kind of water softener that will suit, some points need to be kept in mind. Given below are the main points that need to be looked into before purchasing a water softener.

Grains capacity - The most vital criterion that has to think about is the grains capacity of a water softener as it is directly linked to the softening procedure. Make sure that you settle for a softener that has the ability to treat the hardness level of your water.

Brand – There are umpteen companies that manufacture water softeners today and so you have to ensure that you purchase a renowned and trustworthy brand of water softener for your home. The most popular brands include Culligan Kenmore, Pelican, Calgon, and Kinetico to name a few of them. These brands are quite well known for their competence, value and long lasting nature.

Type – The next factor to be determined is the model you intend purchasing.  The main models include demand –initiated regeneration softeners, automatic softeners and manual softeners. You can buy whatever model you want according to your convenience and budget.

The other main factors to be considered are the price, durability, capability, performance guarantee and reviews and ratings. Remember to purchase a water softener that comes with money back guarantee so that you can get your money back if you are by any chance not satisfied with the performance of your water softener.

I highly recommend to stay away from Kenmore Water Softeners. We purchased one about 5-years ago and the thing is now dead. Was a complete waste of nearly $700.

All of the research I have done online shows that a unit with a Clack control valve is the best. Clack did recently stop allowing online resellers the ability to sell their products so they may be a little harder to find. Nonetheless, you should be able to fine a Clack equiped unit in or around your location through a local reseller.
